It is your whole school’s shared responsibility to support the trauma recovery of students and families of refugee backgrounds.

The SIFR whole-school approach is adapted from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health Promoting Schools (HPS) framework. SIFR is designed to complement the Victorian Department of Education and Training’s school-wide Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) and Catholic Education Melbourne’s Horizons of Hope and School Improvement Framework.

This assists schools to place their initiatives to support students of refugee backgrounds within their four-year strategic plans and annual implementation plans.

We invite schools to create supportive policies, procedures and practices addressing priority areas:

  • Teaching and  learning
  • School climate
  • Families
  • Transitions
  • Professional leadership
  • Partnerships
